In the fall of 1984, Jeff and Candice Milstein began Wyatt Austin Jewelers in a small strip center on Schaumburg Road. They always paid careful attention to their customer’s desires and acted as their professional advisor in the jewelry domain. Five years later it was time to move down the road to what used to be corn fields.
The store was located in Scharrington Square Shopping Center at Schaumburg and Barrington Roads for the next 20 years. With Jeff’s and Candice’s insight and attention to details, business continued to grow every year. They watched the neighborhoods expand and traffic increase to make the intersection one of the busiest in town. New customers filed in every day for the experienced staff to provide all services from changing watch batteries to designing jewelry. As well as old world craftsmanship, they developed the skills to work with state of the art techniques; Matrix CAD/CAM and Revo rapid prototype machine to carve the wax models with precision. Within a few years, Wyatt Austin’s loyal customers started sending their children in to buy their engagement and wedding rings.
In 2009, Jeff and Candice decided it was time to make another move to the current store location in the One Woodfield Place building at Woodfield Road and Mall Drive. With Jeff’s attention to detail he was able to act as the general contractor and managed to get the store ready to re-open within 6 weeks. In April that year the doors opened once again with a new, spacious, custom designed and built showroom and shop. It was Jeff’s passion that made it all happen. Sadly, in August 2011, after an 18 month battle, Jeff lost his fight with cancer. Because of the strength of his character and positive attitude he was able to defeat the odds for a long time but eventually it overtook him.
Today, Candice, her family and staff continue to expand the business including Wyatt Austin Jewelers’ and Jeff’s legacy to serve our community. Not only do we find or create what our clients want, we give back to various local and regional organizations that help those in need. They continue to achieve the level of strong ethical standards, expertise and recognition that few independent jewelers accomplish.
